About Global Health Studies

Welcome to Global Health Studies

Welcome to the future of global health! In an interconnected world, addressing challenges such as emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, pandemic preparedness and health disparities requires multidisciplinary teamwork and cultural understanding. Our dedicated faculty and staff within Global Health Studies are committed to achieving health equity for all people, everywhere.

Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders

Michigan State University’s Global Health Studies programs are designed to create the next generation of global health leaders. Leaders across all disciplines, utilizing a One Health approach, work together to solve global health challenges. No matter your level of experience in global health, Global Health Studies has a path for anyone who wants to make a healthier, more equitable world.

Our online Master of Science in Global Health, designed for individuals from any academic background, provides the tools and skills to lead global health initiatives in a variety of fields. Our Graduate Certificate in Global Health, composed of three of the graduate courses, is a great option for students who want to begin exploring global health concepts while exploring post-graduate options. For MSU medical students, our DO Global Health Certificate is concurrent with the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine’s DO program and is available at no additional cost. MSU undergraduate students can register for our Undergraduate Certificate in Global Health, which has courses ranging from learning global health research methods to real-world applications of the One Health approach.

The One Health Advantage

The concept of One Health, the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health, is what guides Global Health Studies’ curriculum approach. Faculty across human medicine, osteopathic medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, entomology, anthropology, social work, agriculture and more create our curriculum and exemplify how global health transcends disciplines.

A Legacy of Global Impact

Michigan State University has a long history of advancing the common good with uncommon will since its founding as the first land-grant college in 1862. The Global Health Studies program was created to continue that tradition through our unique, multi-disciplinary approach to creating the next generation of global health leaders.

As a student here, you will collaborate across fields to turn today's most pressing global health obstacles into tomorrow's solutions. I invite you to join us in advancing the common good with uncommon will through one of our many global health programs. We look forward to realizing your impact!

Rebecca A. Malouin, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.S.
