Join MSU Global Health Studies for the September 2026 edition of our GHS Speaker Series, hosted by Global Health Studies professor Dr. Travis Gordon.
Dr. Gordon, in his role with MSU Global Health Institute (GHI), oversees international projects and collaborations between MSU GHI and partners in Mexico.
In his presentation, “Global Burden of Surgery: An Osteopathic Opportunity,” Dr. Gordon will explore global challenges surrounding surgery, including when surgical intervention is necessary and how cultural differences shape surgical care around the world. He will discuss the increased risk vulnerable populations face from unnecessary or potentially harmful procedures, as well as often-overlooked long-term postoperative risks. Through specific surgical examples, Dr. Gordon will highlight how osteopathic physicians are uniquely positioned to address these challenges, mitigate risks, and positively impact patient care.
